Welcome to a quiet corner of the blog
From the Writer's Desk is a space where I step back from our formal topic highlights to share a few candid, unhurried reflections right from where I sit. It's an open invitation to pull up a chair, pause for a moment with a warm drink, and connect on a personal level.
As we reach the end of this month, I've been sitting here at my desk reflecting on the conversations that touch my heart most in my practice. Whether clients come to me for general clinical hypnotherapy support around stress and sleep, or to navigate the shifting terrain of perimenopause, there is a quiet feeling that so many people share: feeling a little disconnected from their own body, and wondering if they will ever feel like "themselves" again.
I know that place intimately because I have walked it myself. During my own journey through perimenopause, I had a genuinely tough time. Like many, I turned to HRT—trying patches and gels—and for a little while, it felt like I had been handed my old life back. But over time, my body's reaction to the side effects meant that HRT ultimately wasn't suitable or safe for me to continue. Navigating that realisation was deeply frustrating. Like so many people who cannot take HRT due to medical reasons or side effects, I was left facing the reality of my changing body without that safety net. I understood firsthand the disorientation of physical and emotional shifts: the dry skin, changes in my hair, weight gain, unpredictable mood swings, brain fog, and those sudden emotional waves that leave you feeling entirely unlike yourself. My initial reaction was to fight it—trying to push through the fatigue and demanding that my body keep up a pace it was struggling to sustain.
Finding What Worked: A Holistic Way Forward
Real, lasting relief only began when I stopped fighting my body and started seeking to understand how it was working differently. Exploring a holistic, mind-body approach became my turning point. By learning how to support my nervous system, nourish my body, and quiet the internal stress response, I began to rebuild trust with myself. I discovered that even when internal rhythms evolve, we hold an incredible capacity to restore our sense of balance, energy, and mental clarity. That lived experience—combining personal understanding with clinical expertise—is at the very core of how I support my clients today.
Holding Space at Waterlily Therapy
Whether you are exploring medical pathways, navigating perimenopause without HRT, or simply seeking gentle support for sleep and stress, Waterlily Therapy was built to be an unhurried, compassionate space where you are met with zero judgment and deep understanding. Through clinical hypnotherapy—and within our specialised HypnoMenopause® framework—we draw on integrative, evidence-based mind-body approaches (combining clinical hypnosis, mindfulness, CBT, and NLP) to help you quiet that internal friction:
- Sootheating the Nervous System: Communicating physical safety to your brain so your nervous system can step down from high alert, helping to ease thermal surges, sleep anxiety, and emotional overwhelm.¹
- Softening Self-Criticism: Using gentle CBT insights to reframe the harsh inner voice that tells you that you "should" be doing or feeling better.²
- Restoring Inner Control & Agency: Using hypnotic focus and subconscious visualisation to help you feel grounded, capable, and comfortable in your body again—right where you are today.
- A Thought from My Desk: Healing and balance don't happen by forcing your body to comply with an impossible standard. They can happen when you offer yourself permission to move at a softer, more supportive, and unhurried rhythm.
A Gentle Question for Today
If you find yourself feeling frustrated with your body, your skin, your mood, or your energy today, I invite you to pause and ask yourself a simple question: "What would it feel like to offer my body a little patience and understanding today?" It is a small, quiet shift, but it is often where true ease begins.
An Open Door
Whether you are exploring clinical hypnotherapy for personal growth, looking for support through life transitions, or curious about HypnoMenopause® in one-to-one or collaborative group pathways, please know that you never have to navigate these shifts alone.
My practice is always built at your pace, holding space for your whole story with warmth and clinical care.
Warmly,
